Notes on Zululand trypanosomes

Abstract

CONCLUSIONS. 1. That a trypanosome occurs in animals in Zululand, which is markedly dimorphic, and in this and other respects closely resembles the trypanosome described by Sir David Bruce and others as Trypanosoma Brucei. 2. That the trypanosome introduced into Europe in 1896 and described by various authorities as Trypanosoma Brucei, differs to a marked degree from that described under the same name by Bruce,and from the Zululand trypanosome described above. 3. That a careful study of the trypanosomiasis of Zululand is necessary to determine, among other things, whether a trypanosome having the characters of T. Brucei as formerly described, also exists in that country.
