Description
These ceramic Dutch badges are from opposing sides of the Second World War. The first is an oval tin-glazed orange badge decorated with the outline of orange tree, the date “1938” and the words “HAGESPRAAK” and “LUNTEREN” above and below the tree. The Hagespraak was held from 1936 to 1940 in Goundsberg, Lunteren by members of the Nationaal Socialistische Beweging (NSB). The NSB was a pro-Nazi movement in Holland between 1936 and 1944.
The other badge is a rectangular tin-glazed yellow brown badge decorated with a relief of an American soldier driving a jeep with the inscription “Hello - Mr. Jeep”. The unglazed reverse of this badge has the impressed inscription “SOUVENIR OF LIBERATED HOLLAND 1944”. In 1944, exactly four years after the Netherlands was occupied by German forces, it was liberated by Allied forces. Both these badges were made by the Plateelbakkerij Goedewaagen in Gouda.
