Abstract
Description
This round tin-glazed white plate with a yellow enamel covering is decorated with two shields and a crown in the centre and an inscription on the cavetto. The inscription on the cavetto reads: “ONS LAND ZIJ GROOT IN ALLES WAARIN OOK EEN KLEIN VOLK GROOT KAN ZIJN, 1879 – 7 JANUARI – 1929”. This piece commemorates the 50th Wedding anniversary of Queen Adelheid Emma Wilhelmina Theresia Waldeck-Pyrmont. She was the second wife of King Willem III of the Netherlands and mother to Wilhelmina, who became Queen in 1898. The two shields on this plate are the shield of King Willem III on the left and the shield of Queen Emma on the right. This plate was made by P. Regout & Co. in Maastricht and hand painted for the “Jac J Damen Boekhandel” (Stationary trader) in The Hague.
