The aim of this study was to investigate the possible impact of emotional intelligence on human modelling therapy to a youth with bipolar disorder. The aforementioned was executed by examining a case study in which a youth's emotional intelligence was measured by means of the BarOn EQ-i:YVTM. The findings were integrated into the human modelling therapy sessions.

This study was motivated by previous research results showing that taking an individual's emotional intelligence, together with his or her cognitive intelligence into account, leads to a more holistic approach in the assessment of the person.

Researchers have found that emotional intelligence entails the individual's ability to understand his or her own emotions, give expression to and control them. Emotional intelligence furthermore allows a person to be self-motivated, understand other people's emotions and use problem-solving skills in a relationship context.
