Abstract

ENGLISH : The primary goal of my study was to investigate the impact of life design counselling on an Afrikaans-speaking male adolescent. The study was conducted by means of a case study in which a variety of postmodern techniques were implemented in order to facilitate co-constructive conversation with the partiCipant.

The life design counselling process comprises movement through the following underlying episodes: (a) to know what you want, (b) to know what you have, (c) to know what you hear, (d) to know what limits you, (e) to plan your preferred future, (f) to grow into your story, and (g) to grow out of your story. In this way the participant is able to reconstruct a preferred and meaningful future which can change as different experiences, challenges and needs arise. All the aspects of a person's life are therefore incorporated into his/her occupation in a meaningful manner.
