This research explores the imperative of extending healthcare benefits, particularly in the context of medical aid schemes, to transgender children in South Africa with gender dysphoria. By examining the unique challenges and needs of this demographic, it underscores the significance of providing comprehensive healthcare coverage to support their mental and physical well-being. Through an analysis of existing policies, societal attitudes and international standards, this research aims to advocate for inclusive and gender-affirming healthcare practices, fostering a more equitable and compassionate approach to transgender healthcare with a specific focus on the private healthcare sector of South Africa.
